Looking closely

We are learning to think like a scientist. This means looking closely at things and seeing the detail. We are doing observational drawings each day, adding detail and drawing the shapes and lines we notice.

"I wonder what this is from? It looks like a T-Rex arm bone."
"I noticed there are lots of little stripes".
Drawing objects at the Science table.

Exploring Colour

Using red, yellow and white we made lots of different oranges and pinks.

We used red and yellow dye. It blended together to make orange.
We have been exploring colour this week. It has been great fun. We are thinking about what will happen when we mix red and yellow.

PALS

On Monday lunch time George and Hunter ran a PALS activity

"We did a range of different block building activities like…

  • High tower, Build the highest tower.
  • Hat challenge, you have to build a tower with a hat over your face (you can't see)

We asked the people that came to our activity what was their favourite activity.

Yoshi said his favourite was High Tower
Theo said his favourite was High Tower
Hadley said his favourite was Bridge
Jayden said his favourite was High Tower"

Our Daily 5

Listening on the listening post
Today we used our new daily 5 trackers. We each have our own one to wear around our neck. As we finish doing each of our Daily 5 we tick it off. This way we know what we've done and what we need to do next. We are learning to manage ourselves and our own learning. Our first day was fantastic!
Our Daily 5 Tracker-all done!

Orange Transforms

We have had an exciting Wednesday! After watching Orange the Caterpillar munch and crunch and make a chrysalis we have been waiting expectantly to see him emerge. Today his chrysalis turned black and we could see his wings through it. Then just before morning tea we noticed a beautiful butterfly had appeared. Orange the Butterfly was beautiful. We decided to let him go free at the end of the day. We were all a little sad to see him go. Farewell Orange.

Orange's Transformation

What an exciting day in Autahi today! First our chrysalis turned black this morning and we could see the wings through it, then just before morning tea we noticed that Orange was out! A beautiful butterfly. We released Orange at the end of the day, all a little bit sad to see him go. Farewell from Autahi.

News Sharing on a Monday

Every Monday is going to be our Donut News Sharing day. This is when we make a donut circle and take turns telling each other our news from the weekend. Everyone gets a chance to tell a few people. It is great seeing everyone listening and taking turns to talk. Our first donut was awesome.
