Writing Inspiration

During writing today we had Tautoru students share their writing about people in our community. Which gave us ideas about what we in Autahi could write about... Examples included: Vikings, divers, space men, pilots and planes.

Miramar Community Class Trip

Who is in our Community?

As we launch into Finding Out more about who lives in our community we  are planning a trip for the children. We are going to walk down to Miramar to visit some businesses and places of interest to support this learning.

To do this trip we need some parent helpers, if you are able to help, that would be fabulous thank you, and please let one of the teachers know.

 When:  Tuesday 1st September
(postponement days:  Thursday 3rd September or Tuesday 8th September)

Time:  9am until 12 ish.

How: We will walk down altogether as a big group and then split into smaller groups to visit specific places. We will need a parent to go with each group.

Some of the places we are planning to visit are the Library, Chemist, Salvation Army, Pet Store and the Fruit and Vegetable shop.

We are very excited about the trip and are looking forward to talking to people in the community.

Thank you to those people who have already offered to help.

Inspired to write independently

We have been learning about verbs, action words, during writing time. This young lady decided to do some of her own writing using lots of these exciting words. She then painted a picture to go with it. Fantastic writing!

Learning Time :)

During learning time we are busy in Autahi with various independent activities.

Playing a Maths matching game together...

Reading to someone in the reading corner...

Building with blocks - "Come and have a look at my amazing city!"

Fantastic Writing

We really persevered in our writing today. We spent all writing time working on our pictures and then listening for the sounds to have a go writing with some help from Kath. We are proud of being able to find our rocket words and use them too.

Reading and Writing

During our reading group time we are learning to recognise our high frequency words. Today some of us even really enjoyed writing whole sentences from our book. We were very pleased with our perseverance.

"Here is my house," said the owl.

Rockets take off

In Maths many of us are counting backwards from 20 whilst others are counting backwards from 10. We are checking how we form numerals (number identification) and thinking about the number before (sequencing/number order).

We have had fun doing our rocket pictures...

Developing Tennis Skills

Students in action...

Bouncing and catching a tennis ball (to themselves), balancing a tennis ball on a tennis racquet and hitting a tennis ball in the air (to themselves).  Concentration was evident as well as a lot of fun.

Well done Autahi!
