Seeds, seeds, seeds!
We are inquiring into seeds and where they come from. First we observed and looked closely at different fruits and vegetables to find their seeds. Then we did some careful drawings just like a scientist. We noticed they are lots of different shapes and sizes. They are also different colours. Sometimes there are lots inside and sometimes there are are a few, like an avocado which only has one big seed.
Five Little Speckled Frogs
Five little speckled frogs sat on a speckled log, eating the most delicious flies. Yum, Yum! We used this song to learn about subtraction. It was fun.

Tadpoles influencing our writing...
First we drew the tadpoles observing details of interest.
Then we wrote about what they looked like and/or predicted a possible change...
We were very proud of our writing. |
Many of us took pictures of each other's work. |
Tadpoles in our class!
Today in Autahi we were given some tadpoles to look after. Many of us were really interested in what they were and how they moved.
In our ABC groups we talked about what we knew about them, observed how they moved and what they looked like and then predicted changes when they grow (if any)...
We had loads of ideas to share with each other. Which then promoted a lot of conversation.

Making Sentences
After reading a story about getting ready for school we drew a picture of our school bags. Then we put our sentence together, listening carefully for the beginning sounds.
J is for Jelly
First we had to mix the jelly powder with hot water until it all dissolved. This means that all the jelly has disappeared. We all took turns to stir the jelly.
Then we had to put it in the fridge but we were a little worried that the teachers might eat the jelly so we decided to write them a note. We each helped to write the sounds we could hear and the words we know.
Teachers. No eating or opening the jelly!

Jolly Hockey Sticks
We are loving this new Summer weather and hope it is here to stay! In the afternoons we are heading out for some fun in the sun and learning how to strike with a hockey sticks. We have had two fantastic Senior students, Frankie and George, showing us the basics and taking us through some skill drills. Great to see all those sunhats too!
What a stunning day! Lucky we all have our sunhats. |
Pushing the ball along with the stick. |
Pushing and stopping the ball...quite tricky sometimes. |
Practising holding our stick the right way. |
Our senior buddies giving us a coaching session. |
A mini game in action. Where is that ball? |
Passing the ball to a partner. Practising to stop the ball is also a bit tricky. |
