On Wednesday we had our first drumming session with Andreas. We got to choose an instrument and then we had a go at keeping the beat. It was loud, but lots of fun!

Character strengths: kindness
We have been learning about our character strengths: one of them is kindness. We read lots of stories about being kind and then we did some activities. First we made balloons to give out to people feeling unwell and then we made kindness vouchers for our families. Our vouchers had things like making our own beds and doing the dishes. Our mums and dads took pictures of us when they were redeeming their vouchers.
The kings and queens of zing
We have been studying 'ING' this week and learning all the words that have ing in them. We made crowns because we were the Queens and Kings of ING!

Changing Forms
We have noticed some changes happening in the class. It is inspiring our writing and adding to our inquiry.
Now we Are Six
We have been thinking about what changes around us, and reflecting on how we ourselves have changed. We used this poem as inspiration. We used our imagination to think about what we would be like when we are six.
Now We Are Six
When I was one,
I had just begun.
When I was two,
I was nearly new.
When I was three,
I was hardly me.
When I was four,
I was not much more.
When I was five,
I was just alive.
But now I am six,
I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six
now and forever.
I had just begun.
When I was two,
I was nearly new.
When I was three,
I was hardly me.
When I was four,
I was not much more.
When I was five,
I was just alive.
But now I am six,
I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six
now and forever.

On Mondays we have Donut News. We tell our news to three people and practise listening and taking turns.
When we have news we sit knee to knee and eye to eye. we listen to each other and we take turns. We share our news with three different people. The people on the outside of the donut move around and the people on the inside stay still. We have this every Monday, so Mondays are good days to share cool things we've done over the weekend!

Building our reading muscle
We have been learning to read a book on our own. Even if we can't read the words we know that we can read the pictures, or retell the story if we know it already. It is great to be able to read for a longer time on our own. It is showing that we are able to concentrate and focus on a story. We are also learning to be responsible for our own learning.

Rising Fives Scavenger Hunt
Created using Pic Collage. http://pic-collage.com
Every Wednesday afternoon we have our rising fives where the students who will be starting later in that term or in the next term come to visit. Sometimes we have free choosing time to try different things, sometimes we have a story and an ABC game and other times we look around the school. This week we did our scavenger hunt where we teamed up with rising five kids and did a hunt around the school for where things are and when we go there.

We learned three ways to read a book
Created using Pic Collage. http://pic-collage.com
This week we learned 3 different ways to read a book. We can read the pictures, read the words or retell the story in our own words. Then we practised using our reading muscle. This week our muscle is only 2 minutes strong. That's how long we could sit and read without getting up and staying focused on our books. Next week we hope to beat 2 minutes!

On Mondays we have a news sharing circle--it's called donut news because we sit like a donut!
On Mondays we share our news in a donut circle. We call it a donut circle because we sit on an inside circle and an outside circle. This is when we can share news about our weekends or interesting things we've seen, made or done.
We are sorting b's and c's into our abc books
On Monday we started sorting pictures into our ABC books. We were sorting pictures that start with B and C.
