The World Is My Audience 4 is all about community. Classes from around the world contributed to this ebook. Some students in Tautoru submitted poems about places. Autahishared their classroom treaty and some students in Mahutonga shared their homeless poems. You can download the book here: http://apple.co/25rtOK3
We had a fantastic percussion performance this morning. What a beautiful day! Everyone showed amazing control and rhythm. A huge thank you to all who came along and to our maestro Andreas.
We are learning about the letter q this week. It's an open mouth, hanging stick and a twig. A capital Q is a wide open mouth and a twig. We made hand print queens. They have lovely jewels in their crowns! Q is for queen, quiet, quail, quickly and quilt. We are working hard on not mixing up our p's and q's!
On Monday we went on a trip. We got to feed fish and turtles, pick up star fish and sea cucumbers and search the rock pools for other amazing creatures. Some of us even tasted some seaweed!
Watch the movie to find out more!
One of the letters we are focusing on this week is p. When you write a p it's a hanging stick, tunnel and you close it like a gate. We read the poem Porky Pig and we made pirates and pirate treasure maps. My pirate is purple and pink because they are both p words too! We had to decorate, cut, and glue ourselves! They're pretty perfect pirates!
We used the playdough to create worlds for the animals. Some were sea worlds with sharks and shells and fish. Some were jungles with tigers and some were farms with dogs and sheep.
Some of us in Autahi are doing our reading on the IPAD. We read the sentence, pointing to each word and then we can have it read to us to check any words we unsure about. We are using our magic pointers to make sure we point to each words as we read. Our story this week is called Growing Up and it's all about how we grow and change! The words we are focusing on this week are: I, am, a.
We had great fun today exploring what contractions are. We are learning that they are two words made into one.
We pretended to be word doctors who had to do surgery on the words. First we looked at our two words and remembered that the first word always stays the same. Then we looked at the second word and thought about which letter would 'pop' out and used the scissors to cut it out. Finally we used a plaster to stick the words back together and drew on the 'scar' (the apostrophe) where the letter used to be.
We are all getting geared up for our School Cross Country next Friday 20 May. Each morning we go for a run around the school. We are trying hard to run the whole time and not give up, even when it gets hard. Before we run we set a goal and then see if we can challenge ourselves to do better each day.
One of our goals for swimming this year is to be able to get ourselves changed and keep track of our things. The first day of swimming was a great success and we are going to keep working on being responsible for ourselves!
Another great success is that everyone got in the pool and gave it a go! One of our mantras is changing our thinking from, "I can't do it," to "I can't do it YET!"
We've been reading all about houses. We started by telling the story in our own words. Then we read the story together. After that we had lots of practise with the words in the story. We made our own houses and we wrote about them too!
