Moving to Music

We have been exploring visualising as we listen to music. Some of the music is soft and light and makes us think about things that float and fly. Some of the music was loud and bold and made us imagine animals that were heavy and big. We used our bodies to show the animal we were imagining.

Sound Provocations

We have had different sound provocations out in our room this week. These are to get us thinking about making sound and creating music in different ways. Here are some of them.

What song can you make? What did you notice when you were making your song?

They were also asked to explain what listening looks like through a drawing. Here are some of their ideas.

More 100 Day Explorations

Our 100th Day of School Celebration last week was so much fun. We are still finishing off and continuing to explore some of the ideas we started that week.

We made a 100-link chain on our 100th day of school. Today we hung it in the class. Look how far it stretches. We can see the 10 groups of 10 that there are are on the chain. We counted each group of ten.

We also drew pictures of ourselves 100 years from now. On one side is us today. On the other is how we think we will look in 100 years. We love our hair!

Music music everywhere!

We are exploring pitch (low and high).  We had a go at playing these sound shapes.  Some started low and went high, others started high and went low and others explored strumming and striking the xylophones. We played lots of different interesting shapes. Learning about pitch is going to help us as we make the pieces of music for our Music Festival coming up in a few weeks.

We have also been exploring body percussion and keeping the beat. Here we were making different sounds as we used parts of our body to make a body percussion orchestra.

100 Days of School

We had such fun today exploring the number 100. We counted, estimated, created and moved. What a great way to celebrate our 100th day of school!

Maths Fun

We have got right back into learning and practising our basic facts this week. Here we are finding the facts that make 5, 7 and 9. We had to look at the sum and match it to the fact. We are going to be practising these so that we can do it without having to use our fingers.

We are practising our teen numbers and learning to recognise them as a group of ten and some more.

We are learning about subtraction and how to write these as a number sentence. We are playinf Subtraction Smash. First you have to put some playdoh balls on your board. Then you roll the dice to see how many to smash.

All about the letter i

This week we have been learning all about the letter i. We have been spotting it in our poem and creating different crafts. Some of us have been sorting it into different sounds: long and short, and learning about the -ig word family too.

I is for igloo

I can make a long sound like in 'pipe' or a short sound like in 'skip'.

I is for Iguana

We read a story called I wanna Iguana. It is a great story about a a boy who writes letters to his mum to try and convince her to let him have an iguana for a pet.

Here are some of  our Iguana pictures:
