Travelling Tales

Call all storytellers and creators!

Do you like stories? Do you enjoy using your imagination? Can you make a picture to go with a story? If that sounds like you (and I'm guessing it does!), here's a fun project that you might like to be part of.

Travelling Tales is an opportunity to connect with other families in our school to make a story.

If you would like to be part of a storytelling team, use this link  to find a Google form like this:

Fill out the form and save it. Nicola will put you into a team and let you know which part of the story you will be telling. You will also need to make an illustration to go with it.

We are excited to say that we will share the stories with our school community on our Blogs. Then, we will have lots of new tales to enjoy.

After all, we all love stories, right?

Busy Bubbles

A big Autahi welcome  to Term 2!

One of the nicest things after a holiday is re-connecting with friends, finding out how they are and hearing about what they've been doing.

So, here's a little catch-up blog, collecting some of the photos you've shared recently on Seesaw.

I have had a bit more time for guitar practice than usual and I think my terrible F chord is starting to sound better.

I have also been battling with a huge ivy hedge outside my house. Each day I chop down a bit more. I'm not sure if I'm winning yet, though! (And yes, I have been wearing dungarees everyday.)

Elena has been getting crafty decorating some pinecones with paint. What a great idea: there are a lot of pinecones around at the moment. She has also planted some plum stones to see if she can grow her very own plum tree. Grow little plum tree, grow!

What a beautiful Easter egg! That colouring must have taken a lot of time and care. Did you make a picture like this for the Easter egg hunt? Sophie has been also been working on some exciting drawings and stories with her brother and sister.

Marco has been going for walks and teddy bear hunting along the way. He has also been learning to play a new game with his family. Looks like fun, guys!

Louis' bubble is at his Granny's house. A couple of weeks ago, he caught a fish in the river. He found a picture of it in this book. It's called a Common Bully. Good job, Louis!

And, finally, if anybody is hungry after all that action, Carl baked these yummy-looking scones. Thanks, Carl. I'll have jam and cream on mine.

I hope that you had a good holiday. More fun times to come this term!

Autahi Mindfulness Evening

Mindfulness

Last Wednesday we had our annual mindfulness evening. It was an opportunity to come together as a community and share stories, mindfulness techniques and wear pyjamas to school. Let's take a quick journey into mindfulness and why it is important for us to practise.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mode of attention that is characterised by openness, acceptance and an enhanced ability to respond to the present moment. By being mindful, we gain a clearer understanding of how our thoughts and emotions impact on our health and quality of life.
This ties to positive health which looks to support students in developing sustainable habits for optimal physical and psychological health. We know that practising mindfulness and resilience techniques will promote greater health outcomes.

We have been talking a lot about ways we can bring ourselves back to our thinking brain when we start to feel emotions that make it hard for us to think. Identifying those moments when we need to take some times for ourselves to refocus can help us manage our learning spaces and our social interactions.

A look at our mindfulness evening

We were very lucky to have some amazing parents share stories that are special to their whanau. Thank you to all the parents and big sisters who shared stories and mindfulness techniques.

We also got up and moving with some star wars yoga. You will find the video we used below as well as the link here

Movement can often be a good way to help refocus our brains. We often get moving in the morning to wake up our brains and get ready for learning.

Thanks to everyone who came and made the evening so special. It is great to share our learning with you all and have an opportunity to learn from you.

I encourage everyone to explore what helps them relax and spend some time practising some mindfulness activities for themselves.

The Xmas Wrap

The entire community got together to celebrate a wonderful year and have a bit of a sing song.

It is relatively informal, with families sitting and singing together.
It's also a time where we farewell our Year 6 graduates
and they have an opportunity to say a few words! The Year 6 students were fantastic!
