We have been exploring paint mixing!

We have been exploring mixing paint.  We found red and yellow make orange.  We have also been exploring using rollers, stamps and sponges to add and play with texture.  We made some of these for our backgrounds for our self portraits and some of them are going to be an ABC wall we are making! Come in class and have a look!

Teaming up with John and the seniors to learn about Tane

It was really nice to get to have our snack with John and his base group this week.  John told us the story of Tane and the baskets of knowledge and the struggle Tane went through to get to the baskets.  Learning can be a struggle, but it's well worth it and one thing we have been learning in Autahi is:
We might not be able to do it (whatever it may be) yet, but we won't give up and we will keep trying!

Family Picnic

The family picnic was lots of fun. It was great to play some games, old and new! It was great to see so many children, teachers and parents joining in.

Autahi and Tautoru team up!

During the mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays we team up with Tautoru for an hour and do some discovering.  This week we were using playdough to make different letters of the alphabet, we made Kindness coupons for friends and family members and we've been exploring the shapes of letters with a fun blindfold game.

Bucket Filling

We read the story "Fill a Bucket" and discussed what it means to be a bucket filler.  A bucket filler is someone who does nice things and looks out for others.
We did a brainstorm of what kinds of things bucket fillers might do.  Bucket dippers are people who make others feel sad or upset.  We also brainstormed what those kind of things might be.

Then we thought about ways we can be bucket fillers.

Today we made the Bucket Filler Pledge.  This is inside our poetry books and in our book bags.  Please help us read it at home! We are promising to do our best to be bucket fillers and to try to make up for it when we are dippers!
